Berkeley may have a reputation as a university enclave, but it is so much more. It’s filled with a plethora of amenities that appeal to everyone, and a variety of neighborhoods, each with their own personalities and sense of community.

The East Bay home of the UC education system is eclectic, diverse and full of green and hilly beauty. Berkeley draws newcomers from far and wide with its easy access to arts and culture, as well as its incomparable beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Much of Berkeley maintains a high walkability score, and you’re likely to see a lot of bike and dog-walking traffic in the neighborhoods.

Those looking for casual sidewalk dining, great farmers’ markets, and a healthy lifestyle will find themselves right at home in Berkeley. Along with its veritable selection of casual eateries, it also boasts amazing world-class restaurants and is home to the Gourmet Ghetto, where Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse began the local foods movement in the 70s. With it’s museums, theaters, and galleries, there is a lot of sophistication beyond the tie-dyed stereotypes, though an appreciation of wholistic and alternative lifestyles runs deep in the community too.

Architecture is also diverse in Berkeley - there are examples of homes by architects like Bernard Maybeck, Carl Fox, Richard C. Peters, Joseph Esherick and Julia Morgan. The range of homes available runs through most neighborhoods, with choices from Arts and Crafts to Victorian to contemporary. You’ll also see Spanish Revival, Story Book, and classic bungalows - the variety is incredible.

To truly understand the appeal of Berkeley, you’ll need to experience it firsthand. It’s easy to access, easy to walk, and easy to fall in love with.
