The East Bay has many local events for Martin Luther King JR. holiday celebration. Here are a few events for the family to celebrate.
Martin Luther King Jr Day of
Service 2023
MLK Day of Service is a day when you can give back to the community by completing various service projects w/in Sobrante Park & Brookfield.
Higher Ground is proud to host this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in partnership with Roots Health Clinic, Gamma Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., AASEG, Planting Justice, Scraper Bike Team, Athenian High, City Council Member Treva Reid of District 7, Madison Park Academy, Brookfield Elementary, Service for Peace, Golden State Warriors, City of Oakland, Bay Area Air Management, Sobrante Park Leadership Council, and RAC.
We plan to plant trees, do neighborhood cleanup, do mural painting, do senior citizen home clean up, do Brookfield Greenway maintenance, Edes beautification and so much more. Hope to see you there!
SHIRT GIVEAWAY INFORMATION: In order to receive a free shirt you must complete your registration through Eventbrite. We plan to have shirts for the first 200 volunteers registered and signed in.

Martin Luther King Film Festival: Martin's Big Words (A Film for Children)
Join AAMLO as we return to our annual in-person Martin Luther King Film Festival.
This short film for children introduces Dr. King as a young boy that grows into an inspiring man. The film allows children to relate to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and introduces them to the serious topic of segregation.

In Remembrance of Martin
Join AAMLO as we return to our annual in-person Martin Luther King Film Festival.
The documentary In Remembrance of Martin captures the career and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the civil rights movement.
Included in the film are comments honoring Dr. King by Coretta Scott King, Desmond Tutu, John Lewis, Senator Edward Kennedy, and more.

26th Annual MLK Celebration: Beyond Race, Beyond Class, Beyond Nation

This yearβs in-person program, co-sponsored by PADC and the City of Piedmont, will feature performances by New Style Motherlode Entertainment and Oaktown Jazz Workshop. Speakers include Corrina Gould of the Sogorea Te' Land Trust, Mayor of Piedmont Jen Cavenaugh, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Dr. Claybourne Carson the Founding Director of Stanford's King Research & Education Institute, and keynote speaker Kate Schatz, co-author of Do the Work: An Anti-Racist Activity Book. Also featured this year is an Art & Essay Showcase.
